1901-S<S$1> MS65 PCGS. The 1901-S is one of the most difficult issues associated with the Redfield hoard and apparently was widely circulated at the time of issue. While it is not always the case with Morgan Dollars, the '01-S is actually quite common in well worn condition. Uncirculated pieces are the rarest minted in San Francisco during the six-year period from 1897-1902. PCGS has certified just 24 pieces higher than the MS65 specimen we offer here, and NGC has seen a mere 3 coins finer (6/05). The surfaces on this outstanding example are satiny and nearly untoned, with hints of golden peripheral color. The design elements are well struck, though the hair above Liberty's ear displays minor softness. A few minute marks on Liberty's cheek and the eagle's right wing are mentioned for accuracy.
