<B>1901 S$1 MS63 PCGS.</B></I> This date is one of the key issues in the Morgan silver dollar series. Technically, it is a condition rarity as numerous circulated examples do exist. The rarity in high grade is easily explained by the lack of hoards. For most Morgan dollar dates, extremely large quantities remained in Treasury vaults over many years, until their eventual release in the early 1960s. The 1901 Philadelphia issue was not one of these dates, and most of the nearly 7 million coins minted went immediately into circulation. As a result, circulated examples are easily located, but Mint State pieces are not. This example is fully brilliant with bright silver surfaces. It has excellent design definition with only slight weakness at the centers, and slightly reflective fields. Surface marks are consistent with the grade.
