<B>1901 50C PR68 NGC.</B></I> A large number of 1901 proof half dollars (813-piece mintage) have crossed the grading desks of NGC and PCGS, actually about 400 coins, mostly in the PR62 to PR66 range. At the lofty level of PR68, however, the issue is quite elusive, as fewer than 10 pieces have been seen.<BR> The bright, untoned PR68 coin in this lot exhibits sharply impressed devices, except for a hint of the usual softness at the upper right corner of the shield, where there are also some faint roller marks. Strong magnification reveals the surfaces to be near pristine, as there are no blemishes that we can even identify as pedigree markers.
