1901 $20 --Polished--ANACS. Impaired Proof. 96 proofs were struck, but in his 1988 Encyclopedia, Breen wrote "possibly 36 to 40 proofs survive, many impaired." Given their high face value, many proofs were undoubtedly spent and eventually turned in to the government after the 1933 gold recall. This well struck specimen is bright and faintly hairlined but is an affordable representative of these rare dies.

Coin Engraver: James B.
