<B>1901 $2 1/2 PR61 NGC.</B></I> Only 223 proofs were struck of the 1901 quarter eagle, and yet this issue has the highest mintage of any proof Liberty Head two and a half. This date exists in a wide variety of grades from impaired through PR69. It is curious to note, however, that this is the first example we have offered at public auction in almost three years. The lightly hairlined surfaces show an overlay of reddish patina with a slight accent of lilac interspersed.
