<B>1901 $1 MS63 PCGS.</B></I> The Morgan dollar series poses numerous pitfalls for the unknowing collector, and legions of beginners have discovered that their bargain-priced "1893-S" or "1889-CC" pieces were nothing of the sort. Whereas many alterations to Morgan dollars focus on adding a mintmark, the 1901 is distinctive among regular issues in that fraudsters attempt to increase perceived value by removing that feature.<BR> The present Select example is not only unquestionably authentic; it is also undeniably appealing and highly desirable as a Mint State survivor of an immensely challenging issue.
