1901 $1 MS63 PCGS
1901 $1 MS63 PCGS. Discussing the 1901 in his 1993 Silver and Trade dollar reference work, David Bowers says: "Most Mint State 1901 dollars are poorly struck and have inadequate luster. A coin that is MS60 to MS62 from a technical standpoint, can be dull and unattractive. As if this were not enough, most show unsightly bagmarks." The author continues: "... higher grade Mint State dollars exist but are exceedingly rare. The typical specialist in silver dollars will often find that years elapse between stocking coins in as high as MS63 grade. Forget about MS64 and MS65."
Light gray patina rests over the pleasantly lustrous surfaces of the MS63 example in this lot, and the design elements have received a well directed strike; only the breast feathers are soft. A few minute obverse marks determine the grade. Nice overall eye appeal for the grade designation.

Coin Engraver: George T.
