1900-O/CC S$1 MS65 PCGS. Brilliant and lustrous.
1900-O/CC<S$1> MS65 PCGS. Brilliant and lustrous. A handsome example of this unusual an popular variety. Although the obverse is frosty, the reverse exhibits considerable prooflike character. Traces of a "CC" are clearly visible underneath the O-mintmark on the reverse. Walter Breen reports in his Encyclopedia that "during removal of the CC Assay Office (ex-Mint) furnishings, 6 working revs. were found, sent to Philadelphia and remintmarked for New Orleans use." The Carson City Mint had made silver dollars for the final time in 1893. Nevada's desert climate possibly explains why the reverse appears to be devoid of rust; another explanation is that the dies may have been covered with wax or some other protective material to impede the action of moisture.
