<B>1900 $2 1/2 PR68 Cameo NGC.</B></I> In proof format, this date is considered one of the most common issues in the entire series of Liberty quarter eagles, from a mintage of 205 coins. This date and 1901 are the only two Liberty quarter eagles with more than 200 proofs coined. Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth write: "It seems odd to call any coin with a mintage of only 205 coins common. Today, there are more than 100 coins known, many in superb condition. Proof gold coinage is very desirable, and the opportunity to purchase a quality example should always be considered carefully."<BR> This impressive example is easily among the finest existing proofs of the date, and may also be one of the best examples of the design type. The surfaces are bright yellow with exceptional contrast resulting from fully mirrored fields and highly lustrous devices.
