1900-1920s Three Sets of Sterling Spoons (14)
Featured in this lot are three sets of spoons totaling to thirteen spoons from various makers circa 1900-1920s. The first set of spoons in this collection were made by Paulding Farnham circa 1900-1908. George Paulding Farnham (1859–1927) was an American jewelry designer, sculptor and metallurgist who worked for Tiffany & Co. in the late 19th and early 20th century. After leaving Tiffany & Co. in 1908, Farnham focused his interests on developing mining properties in British Columbia. The nine spoons feature a sterling construction with the name "Crandall" on the top of the handle. The back of the necks show Paulding Farnham's makers mark reading, "Farnham". The next set of spoons in this lot were made in 1904 and features three spoons with a sterling stamp on the back of the necks. The spoons show a name stamped on the top of the handle while the back of the necks show stampings and reads, "Sterling Pat 1904". The last two spoons in this collection are identical but were made by two different companies, Wright, Kay & Company and C. M. Evans circa 1900-1915. Henry M. Wright, a recent graduate of Western Reserve University and a young Civil War veteran, joined Roehm as a partner in 1872, founding the company Roehm and Wright. Wright Kay & Co. was founded when Roehm sold John Kay his ownership stake in the company in 1886. The company prospered and expanded in the years that followed, building a name for itself as a retailer of fine china, silver tableware, and fine jewelry. The spoon shows a sterling bead design on the outer edge of the handle and shows initials at the top reading, "LHA". The back of the neck shows a small stamp with "Sterling" stamped next to it, while the makers mark can be seen in the middle of the neck reading, "Wright, Kay & Co". The other spoon shows the same designs with the initials on the handle reading, "MAD". The back of the neck reads, "Sterling / C. M. Evans". The spoons in this collection show good condition overall with little to no wear present. No signs of obvious damage are present. The spoons measure from 6" L x 1 1/4" W to 5 1/2" L x 1 1/8" W. The collective weight of the spoons is 254.9 grams.
