18th to early 19th century Germanic hunting sword with beautifully carved stag grip. Measures approx. 26ā€ overall, 1-1/4ā€ across widest part of blade. The blade is hand engraved and shows hunting scenes with letter ā€œZā€ on one side and numerals and cipher on reverse. The guard shows a nicely chiseled and formed shell with reinforced forged iron quillons with decorative serrations which match the pommel cap. The grip is finely carved with stags and fox. Top of the stag horn is polished to look like ivory. The grip is in good condition with some even wear from carry, the blade is darkening from normal use. Some slight erosion and aging, but no polishing. No scabbard. A very good looking hunting sword that we would date 1750 to 1810. Est: $700 - $1,400
