18th to early 19th century American chest measuring approx. 13” in height by 21-1/2” in width showing somewhat crude American type manufacture and inlay. Replaced mid to late 19th century brass hardware. Tongue and grove constructed corners. Purportedly the property of a ship’s captain and used as a map and chart chest. Fancy inlays resembling Bethlehem star and geometric borders on inside top. Collected in the 1950’s in South Carolina, where it had been in an old Southern family’s estate. A nice chest. Est: $500 - $3,000
