18th. century white jade hand-carved in shape of a peach with ling zhi sprigs carved in high relief and open work on the stem of the peach. Above the ling zhi there is a bat with open wigs covering partially the ling zhi. As it is known, the bat is the symbol of luck in Chinese mythology and when combined with peach and ling zhi that represent longevity, they assure good luck, prosperity and long life to the owner of this pendant jade. The reverse side features a large ling zhi. This is a superlative quality miniature carving in homogenous flawless white jade. The jade pendant is a master work dating to the period of emperor Qien Lung that reigned China for 60 years at the peak of thriving arts. Size: 2.1" X 1.8" (5.5 c. X 4.5 cm.). The price of Khotan white jade increased 10 times fold (even for modern carvings) in the past few years. Provenance: Dr. Veleanu's jade collection, the author of the collectors' textbook: "Jade, 5000 BC to 1912 AD". Estimated value: $2.500.
