18th. century white jade hand-carved in shape of a ling zhi sprig. It is a marvelous miniature carving in white jade featuring ling zhi in open work and high relief. length: 2.6" (6.5 cm.). Width: 1" (2.5 cm.). This is a master work dating to the period of emperor Qien Lung that reigned China for 60 years at the peak of thriving arts. The price of Khotan white jade (even for modern carvings) increased 10 times fold in the past few years due to the tremendous demand of buyers from China. Provenance: Dr. Veleanu's jade collection, the author of the collectors' textbook: "Jade, 5000 BC to 1912 AD". Estimated value: $2000.
