18th century small sword of European origin probably French, showing cast bronze or brass hilt with gold gilting and nicely engraved and gold gilted blade. The sword measures 32 ½” overall with 27 ½” long blade and measures approximately ½” thick this portion near the hilt. The blade was reduced slightly and was probably about 3-5” longer originally (One of the first weapons control laws was the length of rapier and sword blades). The guard and grip are fancy with a wave and scroll design and at least 75% gold gilt remains on hilt that has not been cleaned or polished. The blade is very good with just slight staining and minor pitting with about 30% to50% original gold and some very good engraving near the hilt. Est.: $700 -$1400
