18th century flintlock ‘buck and ball’ gun, American made, probably New England, with Wilson-marked imported lock. Gun measures approx. 66” overall, approx. .62 caliber smoothbore. Simple brass American stylemounts with some light scratch engraving on the sideplate. Stock shows good striping and is natural. The molding around tang shows a Christmas-tree type carving. The thinned brass buttplate is missing it’s top. The gunis in its original flintlock configuration. The hammer may be an old period American replacement as it is cruder than the imported lock, but has been used with the gun. The metal surfaces show a blackish patina, theforward 37” of the forend are expertly, almost imperceptibly, restored at least 40 years ago before the current owner obtained it. In any case an attractive buck and ball gun with excellent restoration. Est: $2,000 -4000
