This is a very rare NeoClassical Heart shaped Dish/tray dating from the late 18th century France circa 1780-1790 Paris porcelain copying Serves. The tray is beautifully hand painted with flowers, sprigs and scattered cornflowers mostly in the Louis XVI puce color. The use of "puce" (in couleur puce) dates from 1775. The word comes from French; puce literally means "flea", as the usual flea coloration is either dark reddish-brown or dark purplish-brown. This dish was probably made for a French aristocrat of the high court of Versailles. This lovely dish is faintly singed on the back in underglazed blue EB. This dish is 9"1/2 x 9" Condition. Very good with some rubbing to gold gilt and enamel painting.

As of 1770, a large number of porcelain factories were set up in the capital. In order to avoid the royal privileges that banned production outside the Royal Manufactories (Sèvres, Vincennes, etc) and to have the right to produce, factories placed themselves under the protection of leading personalities (Comte de Provence, Comte d?Artois, Duc d?Orléans, and others). As for Marie Antoinette, from 1776, she protected André Marie Leboeuf, established in Rue Thiroux, which later became what was known as the Manufacture de de la Reine.
