This is a rare and magnificent late 18th century Gravy boat & navette/marquise shaped under plate. It is attributed to the Duc D' Angouleme Paris Porcelain factory. The pieces are beautifully hand painted with blue cornflowers in the cornflower pattern. The cornflower pattern or as the French call it Barbeau, was introduced at Sevres about 1774 for French Queen Marie Antoinette. Cornflowers was her favorite flower. The cornflower pattern was subsequently produced at her Parisian porcelain factory on the rue Thiroux. This caused the pattern to be known as "decor de la Reine." This pattern is regarded as a classic Louis XVI porcelain pattern. The pieces are from the collection of Mrs, W, Vanderbilt New York. On the bottom of the Gravy boat are her original paper labels that read: Mrs, W, Vanderbilt, New York, Breakfast Room P.F. PB32 A. The pieces have no chips cracks or crazing. The Gravy is 8 inches wide by 6 inches tall. The under plate is 11 3/4 inches long.
