18th. century white-celadon jade carving in shape of ju yi (pronounced ru yi). Ju yi is a scepter shape artifact usually given as a gift and having the significance of "as you wish", in other words,"make your wishes come thru". This carving dates to reign of emperor Qien Lung and is a superlative jade carving that probably was gifted by a high dignitary, prince or emperor, (considering the quality of carving). It is a homogenous color jade with carving in high relief, featuring dragons and ling zhi, the fungus of immortality.
Provenance: Dr. Veleanu's jade collection, the author of collectors' textbook, "Jade 5000 BC to 1912 AD" and the owner of Objets d'Art Uniques Internet store with Go Antiques. Estimated value: $3.500.
