18th century American horseman's style saber with old associated brass mounted leather scabbard; pierced brass D guard, fluted wood handle stained black, classic 18th century style pommel. The blade measures 30-1/2",the sword measures almost 37" overall, the blade measures nearly 1-1/2" across widest part of ricasso; the blade in good condition showing some of its original polish and some light to moderate pitting and erosion. There is a small makers stamp in the hilt that appears to be the initials "T J". The hilt shows a dark patina; the scabbard fits the sword well and the brass tip and throat appear American but are stylistically 20-40years later, and may well have been used by the sword's owner, just at a later point. The scabbard shows some opening at the rear seam, minor scuffs and losses, and traces of a punch dot and simple decoration. Est.:$1,500-$3,000
