Absolutely stunning; notice the top cherub and how the glow from the fire gives it a blushed flesh tone. The emotion of each cherub has been remarkably captured and I can't began to describe the beauty and contrast of the blues used throughout this painting. Benjamin Delacour created this painting using a single hair brush. If you look closely at the hair of all Cherubs, you'll see each strand is a perfect swirl stroke of the brush that creates the illusion of a full head of curls.
Benjamin Delacour's Miniature and Smalls have sold at Fine Auction Houses In Europe; Christies London and Bonhams London. Three of his most well known are "A Young Gentleman" 1831, "A Lady In A Black Dress" 1837, and "Portrait Of A Gentleman" 1845. This Painting of Cherubs was created between 1780-1824 and perhaps one of Benjamin's Delacour's earlier Paintings as it is a stark contrast to his other works.**** Benjamin Delacour's auction results for Christies and Bonhams can be found ; **** We found this gorgeous (Large) Miniature Watercolor on Ivory Wafer in the small town of Chartres, France on a Antiquing Trip. This is a small wall hanging, set in what we believe to be the original thick beveled glass, walnut frame, and bronze oval trim (has a superb patina). The back is original white kid and bronze teeth. The painting and framing is pristine; Signed Delacour in lower right. I guarantee no flaws to painting or glass. Only frame shows small amount of wear.
