8" x 10.75" (sight); framed and matted to 14.75" x 17.5". Cartouche upper left corner with Virginia and Maryland, by H. Moll, Geographer; probably London; scale of 30 English miles lower left. The map centers on the Chesapeake Bay and was reissued many times. Incomplete erasure and (after *432) upper left; Pens separated from ilvania at top. According to the Maryland State Archives (www.msa.md.gov), this is one of the 1736 states and suggests it was from Salmon's Modern History, published in Atlas Minor. Many of the later states updated English settlements in the area. In addition, many Native towns are also marked. MSA also notes that this was one of the most widely owned maps of the area, and the one through which most people learned the geography of the region.

Condition: Recently framed; not removed from frame for examination.
