This stunning, highly decorated, large bronze signal cannon is named "Le Revilie". The barrel is decorated with Louis, the Sun King, and his sons seals and coat of arms. There is a lot of information on the barrel. Under the name, there is a ribbon with the motto "Ratio Ultima Regum", "The King's Last Argument". One ribbon has the name "Louis Auguste de Bourbon Duc du Maine" which is the title of King Louis' favorite, yet illegitimate son, who lived from 1670 to 1736. Beneath that is his crest. Nest is Louis XIV's sun logo, the the motto "Nec pluribus Impar" (literally, Not unequal to many), and beneath that is his crest. This gun has been fired, but very little, due to the condition of the touch hole. The carriage is beautifully carved with cranes and flowers. The carriages hardware has many fleur de lis design elements. The barrel measures 31"L. The bore is 1 1/4". The carriage measures 19"L x14"W.
