This George III sterling silver spoon is a classic example of the silver from this time period. Hallmarked London 1797, its maker was George Smith VI, was a spoon maker. In our photo you can see his engraved initials ?GS? for the maker. It is also marked with a ?Lion Passant? which shows the Royal control over the Assay Office from which this was minted, the ?B? refers to the year in which it was made (1797), and the ?Leopard crowned head? is the mark of the master goldsmith overseeing its making and preventing forgery. The size of this spoon is 7? long and 1.67? width, and it weighs 0.6 oz (14gram). This spoon is an excellent representation of the silver of the 18th century. The spoon is in a good condition and is a postmark of this era of silver manufacturing.
