This George III sterling silver Salt Cellar, hallmarked Dublin, stands on three hoofed feet and is a classic example of the silver made in 1775. Its maker, William Bond, was very skilled and well trained. Engraved on the underside of the bowl are the initials ?WB? (for William Bond). The Hibernia mark (woman holding quill pen) shows that the duty on this particular piece was paid, the harped crown is the king?s standard mark to show that this was not a forgery, and the ?B? indicates the year in which this particular piece was made. It measures 1.5? high and 2.25? diameter and weighs 1.6 oz (45.35gram). This sterling silver Salt Cellar is in good condition.
