18th Century English Flintlock Coaching Gun, by James Barbar of London, approx. 12 bore, 19'' barrel with swamped muzzle, brown finish, smooth carved walnut stock, with London view and black powder proofs. Front sight is a groove cut in the muzzle, with no rear sight. Lock is marked ''Barbar''. Condition is very good. Overall finish is an even brown with pitting near the lock. The nicely carved stock is generally sound with some loss to the right and left side of the barrel channel near the muzzle, small losses at the front and rear of the lock, a crack on the left side of the triggerguard, and a slight crack behind the barrel tang. Forward barrel attaching pin is missing. All of the lightly cleaned brass furniture is in excellent condition with minor dents and scratches. Triggerguard has a nicely executed bell-shaped finial; a large brass escutcheon plate is inlet at the wrist. Sideplate is a simple but elegant brass filigree. Est.: $800-$1,200 (Antique)
