18th Century Colonial Hand-Forged Amputation Saw
c. 1770 18th Century Colonial to Revolutionary War Era, Medical Hand-Forged Capital Amputation Saw, Choice Very Fine.
This rarely encountered Colonial era Hand-Forged Medical Capital Amputation Saw that measures about 25” long and 4.25” tall with a saw blade and has its original wooden turned handle. The Hand-forged Iron frame has a sturdy yet somewhat decorative turned wooden grip with brass ferrule. No markings seen anywhere and we do not know when its blade was last replaced. Rarely seen outside of museums and the better private collections, this is a wonderful example of an Early American Amputation Saw. An important addition to any antique medical device or Colonial era period collection. In doing research, this cataloger came across a similar quality example listed online, asking $1,600. Our expectations and estimate range being more conservative, while our offering is just as significant.
