18th Century Rare Type Hand-Forged Slave Shackle Set
18th Century Colonial Era, Hand-Forged Set of Iron Slave Shackles, Very Fine.
This original Hand-forged Set of Slave Trade Shackles, is a rarer type used in the 18th Century from about 1750 in the Colonial through Revolutionary War Era. The Hand-forged links of chain measure about 30” long in total length. One end has a large 4.5” x 4.5” metal loop for attaching to the person’s neck. The other end has a smaller 2.5” metal loop to attach to a wall or some other secure point. There is also a cross link having two 2.5” metal loops being about 16.5” from the largest loop end, all having an overall natural even iron patina. An awesome and horrible piece of American Slave Trade and Black history, directly related to that turbulent time of our country’s history. Only the second of this design type we have offered, the first being in our EAHA Auction of January 27, 2017, lot 175 which sold for $6,875. An impressive set of Hand-Forged Iron Slave Shackles worthy of museum display.
