An attractive late rapier probably produced just prior to the small sword era. Overall length is 34 1/2" and the rapier blade measures just over 28". The short 2 1/4" central fuller has stamping in the valley and there appears to be an armorer's mark just above the fuller. Gilded brass hilt with a double kidney guard, slightly S-shaped crossguard and short pas d'ane. Ribbed melon shaped pommel and wooden grip that likely once had a wire wrapping. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a dark patina. Hilt retains traces of original gilding. Grip is a bit loose from shrinkage. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (02-24696/BF). $400-600.
