<td width="100%">
Rare Cane Wedgwood game pie dish. Believed to be made late 18th century. Measures 12inches from end to end and 7 1/2inches high. The body and lid outside are bisque. The inside is glazed. Cane wear made to simulate pastry (Robin Reilly vol I page 502). The version with the hare and raised applied hunting trophy was apparrently the least common of the pie game dish variations. Birds, hare etc in wonderful detail and variety adorn the body and lid of the dish, intersperced with fantastic grapes, leaves and vines of almost 3-dimentional proportions. The finial is in the form of a hare. There is a metal insert, easilly removed, that may be a later addition for ease of cleaning. Underneath the base has an impressed WEDGWOOD mark. Some of the middle letters are worn, but the initial W and Wood are clearly legible. Condition is superb considering the age of the piece. No damage to be found.
