<B>1899-S $5 MS64 PCGS.</B></I> Garrett and Guth speculate that this issue faced mass melting, and while the original mintage consisted of 1,545,000 pieces, in Choice and finer condition the 1899-S half eagle is scarce. The wheat-gold surfaces have potent luster and only a handful of light grazes. Well struck with forest-green copper spots at the lower reverse periphery.
