1899-O<25C> MS65 PCGS. The 1899-O quarter was not preserved in significant numbers at the time of issue. It is especially difficult in the better grades of Mint State. According to our archival records, the major auction houses have offered only 20 examples in MS65 and eleven pieces finer over the last twenty years. The PCGS and NGC population figures are more or less in line with these appearance records, showing a total of 17 examples certified as MS65, and eight pieces higher (3/05). The specimen offered here has frosty luster overlain by cobalt-blue and golden-brown patina around the margins. The design elements reveal weakness in some of the star centers, in the hair at Liberty's temple, on the shield, and on the eagle's talons. The surfaces are generally well preserved, though a couple of reeding marks are visible on Liberty's neck. Population: 8 in 65, 5 finer (3/05).
