1898-O Barber Dime PCGS MS65
Dimes 1898-o PCGS graded Mint State 65. A coin that would grace any high-quality set of Barber coins, and unusually frosty (as well as superb) for an 1898-O. The strike, as is often seen, shows weak areas at the forehead and, lying opposite this on the reverse, the lower part of the wreath, especially the bow and leaves to either side of the bow. Everyone who is familiar with the series knows from experience that most Philadelphia Mint dates are readily available in Mint condition (barring the 1895) while most branch mint dates, and in particular dates struck 1905 and before, are very elusive. Our expansionist policies first expressed by President William McKinley upon his election to office in 1896, bore fruit with America's war in Cuba and the Philippines in 1898 ("Remember the Maine" & Admiral Dewey's Battle of Manila Bay), as well as our acquisition of territory (colonies) there and in Hawaii, Samoa, and the Caribbean. As far as fairs and expositions held that year, the most notable was staged in Omaha, Nebraska and titled the Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition, held from June through October, with 2,500,000 people attending.
Superior Galleries was founded in 1929 and has been a leader in
