1897-S S$1 MS67 PCGS. Beginning with distributions from the San Francisco Mint in the 1920s, the 1897-S has been treated as a common date in the Morgan Dollar series. This is an assessment that still holds true today, but only for coins in circulated and lower Mint State grades. Survivors that grade as high as MS67 number only 29 pieces at the major grading services, and there are just two MS68 examples finer (10/02). Rich toning in blended lavender-gray, copper, silver, and orange-olive shades overlay both sides. Every last feature is sharply struck, and they are free of readily evident abrasions with underlying luster that provides a modest cartwheel sheen as the coin turns under the light. We offered a similarly graded 1897-S Dollar as lot 4251 in our April 2002 sale of the Morris Silverman Collection. That coin traded hands for $5,290. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
