<B>1897 S$1 PR67 PCGS.</B></I> The 1897 dollar saw a mintage of 731 pieces in proof format. Most still survive, if the population figures are any indicator; several hundred examples have been certified by PCGS and NGC. However, fewer than 30 coins have been given the Superb Gem designation, and less than 10 have been graded higher.<BR> This PR67 specimen displays exceptionally smooth surfaces; Liberty's facial and neck features are as fresh as the day the coin came off the press. Low intensity silver-gray patination is accented with orange-gold, magenta, and lavender along portions of the borders. An exquisite strike imparts sharp definition to the design elements, including the eagle's breast feathers. A truly superb coin that is housed in a green PCGS holder.
