May 19, 1897-Dated, Uncommon Manuscript Letter, (President William McKinley) Unsigned, on blue headed Executive Mansion Letterhead, written by a Secretary of the 25th President and shows McKinley declining an invitation, Choice Crisp Extremely Fine. It reads, in full: “The President and Mrs. McKinley regret their inability to accept the courteous invitation of The Colonial Dames of the State of New York to be present at a Reception at the Van Cortland Mansion on Thursday, May the twenty-seventh, at three o'clock. Wednesday May the nineteenth, 1897.” Beautifully written in rich brown, presented on crisp clean heavy wove Executive Mansion paper with one central fold from its original mailing.
