1897-O 50C MS64 PCGS. One of the lower mintage issues in the Barber Half Dollar series, the 1897-O was produced to the extent of just 632,000 coins. The vast majority of survivors are well worn, with Poor, Fair, AG, and Good being the most prevalent grades. An understandably important near-Gem, this coin displays a softly frosted sheen with light, mottled, champagne-gray overtones. The reverse impression is a little soft in areas, as one might expect for an O-mint Barber coin, but the surfaces do not reveal any abrasions that would seem to rule out an MS65 grade. A significant find for the advanced Barber Half Dollar specialist, and worthy of a premium quality bid. Population: 11 in 64, 13 finer (7/02).From the Ohio Collection.
