1897-O $1 MS64 PCGS. Finding attractive representatives of this issue is challenging. Many are found with insipid luster, weak strikes, or a combination thereof, and Gem examples are nearly unheard-of. On the other hand, opportunities arise for the discerning collector to select a truly special example; Q. David Bowers has called this issue "a cherrypicker's dream."
The present Choice coin features radiant cartwheel luster, superb surface appearance, good coloration in the form of a light silver-gold cast with slight tinges of lilac, and a solid (if not full) strike. Only light abrasions are present on each side, and in light of the overall visual appeal, such flaws are minor quibbles. Population: 32 in 64, 13 finer (1/08).
From The Oxford Collection.

Coin Engraver: George T.
