1897 Coronation Royal Russian Egg 2.5 Inches Tall Russian Style Enamel Gold Plated Pewter, Austrian Crystals Royal Coach Figurine Inside Hand Painted Gift Boxed Imported This hand-painted sparkling egg is adorned with clear crystals and high-polished enamel with golden trim. The egg opens on a hinge and closes shut with a magnet, to keep the box securely shut. The small replica of Royal Coach figurine is inside the egg. The piece comes in a beautiful gift box. Egg history: The Coronation Egg from 1897 is the most famous and celebrated of Carl Peter's creations. It was made to honor the Russian Tsar Nicholas II and his wife, Alexandra coronation ceremony. The surprise concealed in the egg is a removable replica of the Imperial coach on her entry into Moscow to her coronation at the Uspensky Cathedral. The egg was displayed in the Empress' apartment at the Winter Palace.
