Astoria, or Anecdotes of an Enterprise Beyond the Rocky Mountains by Washington Irving is a historical account of John Jacob Astor’s ambitious attempt to establish a fur trading empire in the Pacific Northwest during the early 19th century. The 1897 edition is one of many later reprints of this work, and while it may include revisions, updates, or new illustrations, it is not the original first edition. Collectors and historians consider the 1836 publication to be the first edition of Astoria. The condition of this pair of books is well preserved with some wear to the cover of the book in the corners and to the outside spine of the books with some slight browning of the pages consistent with the age of the book but otherwise is well preserved.
