<B>1897 50C PR67 Ultra Cameo NGC.</B></I> By 1897, proof mintages for the unloved Barber half dollar fell to a low 731 pieces. Exemplary black-on-silver contrast is the chief attribute of this Superb Gem coin. Deep mint frost thickly covers the devices, and the fields are limitless pools of reflectivity. This Barber half is completely untoned, and could just as easily be a proof Franklin half, one of those early strikes off of a proof die. A couple of curly lintmarks are noted at the I in IN on the obverse. The strike is full, save for the touch of softness so often seen on this series at the upper right (facing) shield corner and the nearby wing.
