1897 $20 MS65 PCGS. Even though the Philadelphia Mint produced almost 1.4 million examples of this issue, the present specimen is the only Gem to be certified as such by PCGS. Fully struck, with intense cartwheel luster across each side, this piece displays absolutely exquisite rose-gold toning. The surfaces are well preserved and only show a few minuscule marks. It is hard to predict what such a coin will bring in the current market arena, with the emphasis placed upon Registry Set collections. A truly beautiful double eagle, and certainly one of the finest P-mint survivors from 1897. Population: 1 in 65, 0 finer (7/07).

Coin Engraver: James B.
