1897 $2 1/2 PR66 Deep Cameo PCGS. Only 136 proof quarter eagles were struck in 1897, and it is estimated that today approximately 45-50 pieces remain in all grades, although that number may be a bit on the low side. This is one of the finest known examples. The fields are dark pools of illimitable reflectivity, and hairline-free. The devices are richly frosted and provide a stark cameo contrast against the watery depths in the fields. The piece seems virtually perfect, with the only mentionable "defect" being a faint diagonal toning streak across Liberty's face. A slight degree of orange-gold toning occurs on the obverse, but the reverse displays a nearly full coating of lovely, deep rose and orange-gold coloration. Outstanding technical quality and eye appeal. Population: 4 in 66 Deep Cameo, 1 finer (11/06).
From The James Paul Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
