<B>1897 $2 1/2 MS66 NGC.</B></I> While the 1897 quarter eagle, with a mintage 29,768 business strikes is not exceedingly rare, coins in the better Mint State grades are difficult to come by. The Premium Gem in this lot displays peach-gold patina laced with tinges of mint-green. The fields are somewhat prooflike, and highlight the mildly frosted motifs when the piece is tilted under a light source. An exquisite strike enhances the eye appeal, and an even higher grade is precluded by some minor obverse handling marks.
