1896 William McKinley Humorous Campaign Coin. Lead, 3.5" in diameter. The campaign of 1896 pitted William McKinley, "the advance agent of prosperity" against William Jennings Bryan, proponent of "free and unlimited coinage of both silver and gold" - his 16 to 1 ratio of silver to gold. The obverse has the slogan "In McKinley We Trust, In Bryan We Bust" and the obverse "16 to 1" and "Billy Bryan's Idea of Free Coinage". This large lead coin allowed McKinley to poke fun at Bryan's 16 to 1 policy in a unique and graphic way. McKinley is credited by many with revolutionizing political campaigning by introducing advertising-style campaign techniques just such as this. The coin is in very good condition with some indentions at the rim that don't affect the central motif. An uncommon variety.

Shipping: Miscellaneous Collectibles, Smal (view shipping information)
