On the obverse, the area around Liberty's eye and top of her head are lighter in color with splashes of red highlighting the reflective surfaces. As the 1890s unfolded, the Philadelphia Mint seemed to master their technique in producing proof silver coins. Many show exceptional frost and pristine surfaces, as the collectors also learned how to maintain the surfaces without cleaning their coins. Today some of these 1890s silver coins are simply stunning for their colorful tones and superb surfaces. This coin is an excellent example of the quality that has survived to tantalize numismatists today.
