<B>1896-O<50C> MS64 NGC.</B></I> Considered a better date among the Barber half membership, with a mintage of 924,000 pieces. Certified survivors of this issue average only about Choice XF45, and only five pieces at NGC have graded MS64 or finer (9/06). This piece offers blazing luster with just a dusting of gold around the rims. The obverse is boldly struck and, despite the reputation of O-mint half dollars, the reverse strike is weak only on the right (facing) shield corner and the eagle's right claw, just like many examples from other mints. Examination with a loupe does show a few light abrasions that confirm the grade, but they are undistracting. Census: 5 in 64, 5 finer (9/06).
