Morgan Dollars 1896 NGC graded Proof 68. Cameo. <b>The epitome of perfection in a Proof Morgan Silver Dollar, this has everything you could want including deep cameo contrast and sleek "watery" reflection. A beautiful black-and-white untoned specimen that comes to us with two others dated 1880 and 1900, all in the same state of preservation, each one an art object showing the late-19th century's mastery in coin design. Only 762 Proofs were made in 1896. George T Morgan's design portrays Miss Anna Willess Williams, a schoolteacher, as Ms. Liberty. Morgan, with difficulty, had persuaded her to become his model, and she sat for him five times at the home of the illustrious painter Thomas Eakins, under promise of strict secrecy. The eagle follows closely one Morgan designed for a half dollar Pattern in 1877.
