<B>1896 25C PR68 Ultra Cameo NGC.</B></I> The silver proofs of the 1890s are famous for the powerful contrast found on many examples, and the quarter offered here strongly reinforces that reputation. The subtly gold-toned mirrors display immense reflectivity, and the devices are crisply defined, even on features that appear weak even on most proofs, such as the fletchings and claws on the reverse, as well as the eagle's shoulders. As one might infer from the grade, the piece seems practically perfect to the unaided eye, and even under magnification, only the most trivial flaws appear. A specimen with finer eye appeal is difficult to imagine.
