<B>1896<25C> PR67 Deep Cameo PCGS.</B></I> As much as the Barber coinage design has been maligned, since its outset in 1892, as unimaginative and aesthetically unappealing, it would be difficult for anyone to argue successfully that Barber proof coinage does not exhibit more than its fair share of beauty compared to other U.S. series, from either earlier or later eras. This stunning Superb Gem quarter is an excellent example. The stark white-on-black contrast seen on both sides is comparable to that boasted of by modern proofs from post-1950. The striking details are impeccable and the surfaces are most impressively preserved. For the sake of accuracy, we note a small contact mark on Liberty's cheekbone, and another on the reverse shield, but these minor imperfections are easy to forgive when admiring this lovely specimen. Population: 8 in 67 Deep Cameo, 2 finer (8/06).
